Vancouver has taken home the bronze ranking No.3 after Melbourne and Vienna as one of the world’s most livable cities. Crime and traffic congestion have slowed our rankings according to the 2012 report from the Economist Intelligence Unit. Toronto and Calgary followed Vancouver in 4th & 5th.

This survey done annually analyzes 140 cities and uses more than 30 factors to determine a cities livability with a score out of 100. Covering items like healthcare, education, culture and environment are included and Vancouver’s score was 97.3. Crime rates, standard of infrastructure, public transport and political, social stability are also considered.

In the past 10 decades Vancouver held the No.1 spot but lost marks for crime rates, availability of quality housing and congested road networks.

While work has started on the Evergreen transit line, authorities are reporting scrambled intersections and road tolls to counteract congestion.
